North Korea to cut roads and rail networks with South Korea

In the series of escalations between the two Koreas, the North Korean army has now threatened that it will entirely cut off transportation networks connected to South Korea , including all roads and railway connectivity, reported Reuters quoting state media KCNA .

According to the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army , this turn of events in North Korea was in response to the war exercises that have been conducted in South Korea and the growing visits of US strategic nuclear assets in the region.

Kim Jong-un ruled nation was already in the process of installing landmines and barriers along the border and creating wasteland along the highly militarised border for months, despite facing multiple accidents, South Korea’s military informed in July.

Further, the North Korean army has also said that it will fortify the areas on its side of the border. The announcement which came on Wednesday, will increase the activity near the demarcation line separating the two nations, which is comparatively a rare phenomenon considering the history of the Korean peninsula.

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un has initiated core changes in the country’s constitution which change the language defining the relations with South Korea and term it as a ‘hostile’ nation. The amendment will also seek to redraw the maritime boundaries.

Earlier, Kim Jong-un gave a warning to the US and South Korea that North Korea could use nuclear weapons in case of confrontations with them. “The use of nuclear weapons is not ruled out in this case,” he said.
