'Terrible vice president': Old clips of Liz Cheney critiquing 'radically liberal' Kamala Harris resurface after her endorsement

Former Republican Representative Liz Cheney has thrown her support behind Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris . Cheney, once a staunch critic of Harris, is set to campaign with her this Thursday, marking a significant shift in her political stance.

This endorsement is particularly notable given that Cheney’s father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, has also aligned himself with Harris. But before this, Cheney was a staunch critic of “radically liberal” Kamala Harris and critiqued her for years.

Former President Donald Trump seized upon this surprising endorsement, dismissing it as “irrelevant” while mocking Cheney's previous critiques.

Sharing a video compilation of Cheney's past criticisms of Harris, Trump said, “Has Liz Cheney, one of the dumber people in politics, ever looked at the horrible statements she’s made about Lyin’ Kamala Harris? Every view and policy is the exact opposite of what Cheney and her equally ridiculous father, who got us into the never ending Wars in the Middle East, have stated over the years. They’re being posted all over the internet, and Cheney looks even dumber than I thought she was - But I still say Kamala is worse!”

Here’s all what she said in the clips shared by Donald Trump.

Cheney had voiced her disapproval of Harris’s candidacy when Joe Biden named her as his running mate, stating, “Her views are so radical. That just from a political standpoint, it was a surprising pick to me. So I think in addition to that she would be a terrible vice president policy wise for the country. It tells us something about Joe Biden.”

This sentiment echoed through a series of critical remarks she made over the years, wherein she labeled Harris a “radical liberal” and expressed concerns about her policy proposals.

In another clip, Cheney highlighted the perceived threats posed by a Harris vice presidency, saying, “Every single day, the Democrats tell us what they would do, as Kamala Harris put it yesterday: the Harris administration with Joe Biden. They would defund our police, dismantle our freedom, destroy our history, and abandon our founding values. Every day, you see the damage of years of Democrat policies.”

Her strong statements about Harris’s handling of the border crisis and her executive actions in California regarding gun sales had further cemented her position as a fierce critic of Kamala Harris.

She had in the past targeted Harris over border crisis, an issue that has been picked up by Republicans to attack Kamala this election season. In the clip, she can be heard saying, “The President has said vice president Harris is in charge of the border. Vice president Harris said she was not incharge of the border. Nobody seems to be incharge, she hasn't been there and we have a humanitarian and national security crisis and health crisis unfolding there.”

The political trajectory of Liz Cheney has been anything but straightforward. Once a prominent figure in the House Republican leadership, she became a target for Trump and his supporters after voting to impeach him following the January 6 Capitol riot. This decision cost her not only her leadership position but ultimately her seat in Congress when she was ousted in the 2022 GOP primary by a Trump-backed candidate.

Cheney joined a growing number of prominent party members breaking ranks to support Harris, including former Representatives Adam Kinzinger and Geoff Duncan, who recently spoke at the Democratic National Convention . Additionally, Harris has garnered the support of over 200 alumni from both Bush administrations and numerous former national security officials.
