Trump's VP pick JD Vance turned away at Pennsylvania's Primanti Brothers during campaign stop

Primanti Brothers, a popular sandwich shop in Pennsylvania, turned away Donald Trump's running mate JD Vance during a campaign stop on Saturday. Vance, who is running for vice president, was initially not allowed to enter because staff were not informed about the visit in advance.

As per the New York Post, the restaurant’s manager stopped Vance and his team at the door, despite many supporters waiting inside. Vance addressed his disappointed supporters in a video posted on the social media platform ‘X’.

“[The manager] just freaked out a little bit because there were a lot of people and she didn’t want to make her restaurant part of a campaign stop,” Vance explained. “We went in there, we paid for everybody’s food, we gave them a nice tip, and of course when I gave them a nice tip I said ‘no taxes on tip’”, Vance was heard saying in the clip posted.

Vance expressed that he did not hold any grudge against the restaurant and encouraged people to continue supporting the business. “It’s alright, don’t hold it against her, she just got a little nervous," he said. "But it’s a great local business, keep on supporting it, and most importantly, on November 5th go vote. Let’s go win this thing.”

Videos circulated online showing Vance's supporters leaving the restaurant after initially being turned away.

Soon after, Primanti Brothers allowed Vance and his supporters to meet inside. The restaurant also released a statement aiming to prevent any backlash.

“Our doors are open to all patrons who wish to dine with us,” the statement read. “Without any advance notice, today’s campaign stop caused some momentary confusion for our staff. However, Senator Vance and his team were welcomed into our restaurant shortly after and engaged with our guests inside and on the property.”

Earlier this year, Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz also visited Primanti Brothers, which reportedly led to some patrons being asked to leave to make room for a photo opportunity.
