Usha, born to Indian parents who immigrated to the US, grew up in San Diego and later attended Yale University, where she met JD Vance. They married in 2014.

JD Vance has often spoken about his wife, Usha, with deep admiration and gratitude, particularly emphasizing her pivotal role in both his personal life and political career. In a 2024 interview, he described Usha as "an amazing person" who has been "incredibly supportive" throughout his political journey.

Reflecting on her background, Vance noted, “I’m married to an Indian-American . They make really good vegetarian food,” acknowledging how her heritage has introduced him to new cultural experiences. He also expressed admiration for her sacrifice, recounting how Usha stepped away from her successful legal career to support his political ambitions: “She told me, ‘If we’re going to do this, let’s make it a family adventure.’” Vance has made it clear that much of his political success is due to Usha’s support, saying, "Without her, none of this would be possible."
