Democrat candidate Kamala Harris on Tuesday won the party's stronghold of Vermont. The state has voted in favour of Democratic candidates in the previous eight presidential elections.
However, his Republican rival Donald Trump secured victory in Indiana, Kentucky and West Virgina. The former president received 11 electoral votes over Democrat Kamala Harris in reliably conservative state, Indiana, where Republicans have held the governor's office for 20 years.
Meanwhile, Republican governor Phil Scott secured his fifth term defeating Democratic rival Esther Charlestin, alongside other candidates including independents Kevin Hoyt, Eli "Poa" Mutino, and minor party candidate June Goodband.

Scott, aged 66, with experience as a legislator and business owner, campaigned for voters to select practical-minded legislators who would collaborate with him to enhance Vermont's affordability and resist legislative tax increases.
Bernie Sanders also secured his fourth consecutive six-year term in the US Senate, defeating Republican challenger Gerald Malloy, alongside other candidates including independent Steve Berry and minor party contenders Mark Stewart Greenstein, Matt Hill and Justin Schoville.
