Apoorva Shetty, a young woman from Pumpwell, Mangaluru, has won Rs 6.40 lakh on the popular television quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), aired on Sony TV. Her interaction in Tulu with her father and uncle on the show’s stage has received widespread appreciation from the Tulu-speaking community.

Apoorva’s episode was broadcast on the night of September 27. She successfully answered 10 questions, securing Rs 6.40 lakh. The 11th question posed to her was, “Which country has the largest area of mangrove forests?” with the options being Brazil, Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. Unsure of the correct answer, she used her lifeline and called her uncle, with whom she conversed in Tulu. He suggested Nigeria, but uncertain about the accuracy, Apoorva decided to quit, taking home Rs 6.40 lakh rather than risking a wrong answer.

During the episode, Apoorva told host Amitabh Bachchan that her father, Lokanath Shetty, is a huge fan of his. Amitabh then made a video call to Lokanath, who spoke to his daughter in Tulu, highlighting the importance of their language. Overwhelmed with emotion, Lokanath shed tears of joy during the call, a moment that touched both Apoorva and Amitabh. In response, Amitabh offered Apoorva a handkerchief to wipe her tears.

This heartfelt exchange and Apoorva’s success have resonated with audiences, especially in the Tulu-speaking community.
