Big Festive Relief: LPG Cylinders Available for Just Rs 450 Starting November 5

Send Push

As the festive season approaches, the state government is stepping up with a significant move to ease the burden on families in need. Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Sumit Godara, announced a new subsidy on LPG cylinders, bringing the price down to Rs 450 for families under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and those in the BPL category. This move is aimed at supporting women and households struggling with rising costs.

How the Scheme Works

The state government, inspired by the Prime Minister’s initiative, has expanded the reach of the scheme to include all wheat-ration-receiving families under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). With this, NFSA beneficiaries will now be able to purchase LPG cylinders at this highly subsidized rate. To facilitate this, the department has enabled a new system on POS (Point of Sale) machines at fair price shops, allowing for seamless registration and processing of eligible families.

The process begins November 5, as part of a large-scale campaign to link eligible families’ LPG IDs with Aadhaar/ration cards through fair price shops. Families must ensure their LPG IDs are seeded with Aadhaar details to qualify for the subsidy. This campaign will run until November 30, 2024, allowing beneficiaries ample time to complete the necessary steps.

A Smooth Transition for All Eligible Families

Principal Secretary Subir Kumar has assured that no family will be left out. For families who haven’t completed Aadhaar card seeding, fair price shops will assist in seeding Aadhaar details and conducting e-KYC right at the local level through POS machines. The process is set up to be efficient, ensuring every eligible family can benefit from this scheme as quickly and conveniently as possible.

Streamlined Access to Affordable LPG

By implementing this subsidy scheme, the government aims to alleviate the pressure on NFSA families, making it easier for them to access affordable cooking fuel. The initiative also requires fair price shopkeepers to ensure that wheat distribution is only provided to families who have completed their Aadhaar, LPG ID seeding, and e-KYC, ensuring that all who qualify can take full advantage of the scheme.

Starting November 5, this bold move will provide a much-needed financial reprieve to thousands of families, offering them affordable access to a vital resource. This isn’t just an economic measure; it’s a sign of solidarity with those in need, marking the season with a gesture of care and support. As the initiative rolls out, eligible families are urged to complete the necessary formalities to enjoy this significant benefit—because this festive season, relief is just around the corner.
