Dial 1962 for Veterinary Services: Home-Based Animal Healthcare Now Available, Government Offers Major Relief to Livestock Owners

Send Push

Udaipur : Livestock is one of Rajasthan’s most valuable assets. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the state government is committed to providing relief to livestock owners. To ensure quick medical assistance for animals during times of illness, the government has introduced an additional benefit under the Mobile Veterinary Unit, which was launched in collaboration with the Government of India and the state government. A 1962 call center service has now been started for veterinary care, similar to the 108 emergency service.

Through this service, livestock owners can call 1962 to report any health issues their animals may have. The Mobile Veterinary Unit from the respective area will visit the owner’s home to provide treatment for the sick animals.

The call center was officially inaugurated on Wednesday at the Rajasthan State Livestock Management Training Institute in Jaipur. In Udaipur district, the Mobile Veterinary Unit Call Center was launched at the Multi-purpose Veterinary Hospital at Chetak Circle, with District Collector Arvind Poswal and Zila Pramukh Mamta Kunwar in attendance.

How the Call Center Works

A call center has been set up at the Rajasthan State Livestock Management Training Institute in Jaipur. When livestock owners face any health issues with their animals, they can call the 1962 helpline and provide details such as their name, village, the animal’s condition, and symptoms. The call center staff will log this information into the system and generate a service ticket based on the veterinarian’s advice. The livestock owner and the Mobile Veterinary Unit in their area will both receive notifications via SMS, and the information will also appear on the veterinarian’s mobile application.

A team consisting of a veterinarian, para-vet (animal compounder), and driver/helper will visit the owner’s home with the Mobile Veterinary Unit to treat the sick animal.

27 Mobile Veterinary Units in Udaipur

Dr. Sharad Arora, Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, explained that the government has provided one Mobile Veterinary Unit for every one lakh livestock. In Udaipur district, 27 such units have been made available. These mobile units were inaugurated in February 2024 and have been holding veterinary camps in two villages daily. Now, with the 1962 call center, these units will visit homes directly for treatment.

District Collector’s Appeal to Livestock Owners

During the inauguration, District Collector Arvind Poswal urged livestock owners to take full advantage of this government initiative. He emphasized that animals are like family members for livestock owners, and their illness affects the owner’s financial situation. The 1962 call center service will now provide convenient, home-based treatment for sick animals. Zila Pramukh Mamta Kunwar also praised the government’s efforts and encouraged livestock owners to benefit from this initiative.

The event began with Joint Director of Animal Husbandry Dr. Sharad Arora welcoming the District Collector and Zila Pramukh with traditional turban honors. Both officials also participated in a tree-planting ceremony. Several department officials, veterinarians, livestock owners, and trainee students were present at the event.
