Kanker : In a major breakthrough, security forces eliminated five Naxals in an encounter near the Maharashtra border in the northern Abujhmad region of Chhattisgarh on Saturday. The joint operation by the DRG, STF, and BSF forces also resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and the bodies of the neutralized Naxals. Officials believe several other Naxals sustained injuries during the operation.

Injuries Among Security Personnel

Two personnel were injured in the operation: 23-year-old Constable Hiraman Yadav and 35-year-old Head Constable Khileshwar Gawade. Both have been shifted to Narayana Hospital in Raipur for advanced medical treatment and are reported to be out of danger.

Despite these injuries, the security forces are continuing the operation in the dense forested area.

The Operation: Targeting Key Naxal Leaders

Acting on precise intelligence, police received information about the presence of a large group of Naxals, including senior leader Abhay, near the Narayanpur and Kanker district borders adjacent to Maharashtra.

A joint task force of DRG, STF, and BSF launched a combing operation early Saturday morning. Around 8 a.m., the forces engaged in a fierce gunfight with the insurgents in the dense forests of northern Abujhmad. To prevent the Naxals from escaping into Maharashtra, C-60 commandos were deployed in the bordering Gadchiroli district.

Four-Hour Gunfight Yields Results

The encounter lasted over four hours, during which five Naxals were killed. The forces recovered their bodies along with a substantial amount of arms and ammunition. The identities of the slain Naxals are yet to be confirmed, and the search operation in the area is ongoing.

Police Confirmation and Continued Action

Bastar IG Sundarraj P. confirmed the encounter and stated, “Based on credible information about Naxal movements in northern Abujhmad, a joint operation was launched. As of now, five Naxals have been neutralized, and their bodies have been recovered. A significant quantity of weapons has also been seized. Two injured personnel are receiving appropriate medical care and are in stable condition.”

The operation reflects the commitment of security forces to combat Naxal insurgency and secure the region. Authorities are continuing to comb the area for more insurgents who may have fled during the encounter.
