CPL 2024: Bryan Charles Replaces Dwayne Bravo in TKR

New Delhi, September 30 (Udaipur Kiran): Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) have signed local off-spinner Bryan Charles as a replacement for Dwayne Bravo for the remainder of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024.

Bravo had announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Thursday, as his stint in CPL 2024 had been cut short due to a back injury. Bravo sustained the injury while attempting to catch Kings captain Faf du Plessis in the seventh over in Tarouba.

29-year-old Charles plays for Trinidad and Tobago in domestic cricket but has not officially played T20 yet. Known for his red-ball skills, he was recently included in the West Indies Test squad for the home Test series against South Africa earlier this year.

Charles was also the leading wicket-taker for Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies four-day championship, taking 31 wickets at an average of 17 in seven matches. This tally included a career-best 13 wickets against Jamaica in Kingston in April.

Charles could potentially serve as a cover for Sunil Narine, who has been out of TKR’s last three matches due to a quad complaint. In the absence of Narine due to injury, Kieron Pollard used off-spinner Tim David with the new ball in TKR’s final home match of the season against Barbados Royals on Friday. With three left-handed batsmen in the top six of the Royals, TKR could potentially face the Royals again in the eliminator – if Narine is still unfit for the playoffs, Charles is likely to be in contention for selection.
