New Delhi: Prime Minister on Sunday praised the newly released film ‘The Sabarmati Report’, which revisits the tragic events following the 2002 Godhra train carnage. Taking to social media, PM Modi applauded the film for shedding light on the truth behind one of India’s most debated tragedies.
In his post, PM Modi remarked, “A fake narrative can only survive for so long. Ultimately, the truth always prevails. It’s heartening to see the reality coming to light in a way that the common people can witness.” His comments came as the film gained attention for its bold attempt to dismantle long-held misinformation about the Godhra incident and its aftermath.
A Film Based on Facts, Not Fiction‘The Sabarmati Report’, directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Ektaa Kapoor, dives deep into the aftermath of the Sabarmati Express tragedy, where 59 people lost their lives when a coach of the train was set on fire at Godhra station in Gujarat. This incident triggered one of the most devastating communal riots in India, leaving over 1,000 dead, most of them from the Muslim community.
Starring Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey as an intrepid local journalist, the film claims to be “inspired by true events”. The narrative follows Massey’s character, Samar Kumar, who is determined to expose the truth amidst a web of political and media-driven biases. The movie also stars Riddhi Dogra and Raashii Khanna, who play pivotal roles in uncovering the layers of misinformation surrounding the tragedy.
PM Modi’s Connection to the EventsAt the time of the Godhra train carnage, Narendra Modi was serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. The incident, followed by widespread communal violence, has since been a subject of national and international scrutiny. Modi’s tenure during this period faced significant criticism and accusations, but subsequent investigations and legal proceedings have brought differing perspectives to light over the years.
By praising ‘The Sabarmati Report’, PM Modi appears to underscore the importance of revisiting history with factual integrity. Sharing a post by social media user Alok Bhatt, the Prime Minister highlighted the film’s role in breaking free from “fake narratives”.
