The Prime Minister’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana , a flagship healthcare scheme by the central government, offers financial assistance for medical treatments to economically weaker sections of society. Under this program, beneficiaries can avail of free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in approved hospitals, ensuring that critical healthcare is accessible to those who need it most.

Bihar’s Initiative: Linking Ration Card Holders
Recently, the Bihar government has expanded the scope of the scheme by linking it with ration cards. Health Minister Mangal Pandey announced this decision, stating that around 58 lakh ration card holders across the state will now be able to benefit from the Ayushman Bharat scheme. This initiative was officially launched in Patna, reflecting the government’s commitment to extending healthcare benefits to a larger segment of the population.

Financial Support for Free Treatment
So far, a sum of Rs 1664 crore has been allocated to provide free medical care to the poor under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana in Bihar. The state’s move to integrate ration card holders with the scheme will further ensure that healthcare reaches those who might not have had access before.
