Previously, the process for obtaining a marriage certificate was offline, requiring couples to visit various offices. However, the process has now moved online, making it much more convenient. You can complete the entire application from the comfort of your home. Here’s how:

  • Visit the Marriage Registration Website: Go to the official marriage registration portal of your state.
  • Fill the Application Form: After selecting the option to apply for a marriage certificate, an application form will appear. Fill in the required details accurately.
  • Upload Documents: Once the form is completed, you will need to upload the necessary documents (list below).
  • Submit the Application: After uploading the documents, submit the application form online.
  • Receive Certificate: Once processed, you will receive your marriage certificate in a few days.

  • Documents Required for a Marriage Certificate

    The documents required to apply for a marriage certificate are simple and commonly available. Here’s the list:

  • Birth Certificate or 10th Mark Sheet: Both the husband and wife need to submit one of these to verify their age.
  • Aadhar Cards: Both partners must submit their Aadhar cards for identity verification.
  • Photographs: Four passport-size photos of both the husband and wife, along with 2-2 photos of the couple taken during the wedding where their faces are clearly visible.
  • Wedding Card: A photo of the wedding invitation card is also required.

  • Submission: Once all documents are ready, the couple must visit the registrar’s office to complete the process. If a registrar is unavailable in your area, you can submit the documents to the Gram Vikas Adhikari’s office.

    Importance of a Marriage Certificate

    A marriage certificate is an essential legal document that officially recognizes a couple's union. It is required for several purposes, such as:

    Additionally, when applying for a marriage certificate, the minimum age requirement is 18 years for the bride and 21 years for the groom.
