Repel limescale from your taps with 9p household item you already own

Limescale on your taps can be a nuisance.

If you live in an area with hard water, you'll know the pain of dealing with limescale all too well. It can build up on everything that uses water, including your kettle, your washing machine, and even your shower.

While a build-up of limescale can make your appliances less effective, even just a thin coating of the mineral can leave unsightly marks on things like shower glass and the taps in your bathroom.

Cleaning water stains isn't too tricky and can be done with any bathroom cleaning product. Even the reliable white vinegar can help restore the shine to your chrome taps with nothing more than a cloth to help wipe away the dull marks.

But how do you stop the marks from appearing again? One cleaning fan on TikTok has the perfect solution - and it uses one household item that you probably already own.

Beatriz, who posts cleaning content under the name Make Life Simpler, said that you can "repel" water from your taps by using nothing more than a small tealight candle.

In a video, the woman filmed herself rubbing the candle onto her tap, showing how the candle wax smeared onto the chrome surface. Then, she took a dry microfibre cloth and used it to "polish" her taps and wipe away the excess wax.

And in the caption, she declared: "Here's an easy trick to keep your faucets sparkling! Simply rub candle wax over the faucet and polish it with a dry microfiber cloth for a smooth, water-repellent finish.

"You can also use wax paper for the same effect! Both methods create a barrier that helps prevent those stubborn hard water stains, keeping your faucets looking brand new!"

Most of us will already have some emergency candles in the house. If you need to buy some, they cost around £8.99 for 100 tealights from Amazon - making each candle just 9p.

Commenters on the video were blown away by Beatriz's hack, with many saying they had no idea they could use candle wax to stop water from staining their taps.
