Amanda Abbington has been compared to Princess Anne in an emotional message from her partner.
The 50-year-old actress has been praised by Jonathan Goodwin, who she has been engaged to since 2021, just days after a report was published following an investigation by the BBC. Amanda had accused her Strictly Come Dancing partner Giovanni Pernice of abusive behaviour during training, and some of her allegations had been upheld in the explosive report.
The investigation found six of the 17 claims put forward by the Sherlock star had been upheld, including allegations of verbal bullying as well as harassment. Giovanni was sacked from his role on the hit BBC show, but in the report was cleared of allegations of threatening and abusive behaviour. The Italian dancer denied the claims, but other former celebrity dance partners, including Laura Whitmore, came forward to support Amanda’s allegations.

Former stuntman Jonathan, who shot to fame on America’s Got Talent, took to social media to heap praise on the brave star for coming forward to raise awareness of the issues she has faced during her time on the show. He posted a snap of him and Amanda meeting Princess Anne at the 50th reception for the Spinal Injuries Association, and compared his fiancee to Her Royal Highness.
“What an amazing woman. Never met anyone so determined to stand up for what's right. To advocate for the needy and to never cow-tow to the bullying media. The Princess Royal is also amazing,” Jonathan wrote.
His unwavering support on Instagram was shared shortly before Amanda’s tell-all interview with Victoria Derbyshire on BBC’s Newsnight was aired, in which she described the past few months as one of the worst times of her life. “I've been through a lot - women go through a lot - but it has been a relentless time of my life. I have had to deal with horrible things that continue to happen for just complaining... not even complaining as I don't like that word. Just for reporting what I deemed and other people before me deemed as bad behaviour,” she explained.
Amanda said she had “no regrets” about coming forward, and revealed her team will be investigating the complaints that weren’t upheld due to a “significant reason”. She added: “What's been said at the moment out there is just not true. There were some very serious things that went on and they were upheld by the BBC. There were breaches of all the codes of conduct.”
