An episode was disrupted in dramatic scenes when presenter Mark Stacey raged and stormed off during filming,

A recently shown episode saw the expert joined by Catherine Southon on a road trip through that quickly went downhill when the team's car broke down. In a bizarre turn of events, Stacey was angered when their car broke down, accusing the show of trying to 'sabotage' him, before abandoning Catherine while filming, leaving her stranded alone with the vehicle.

The episode, from 2017, played out with the voiceover, Tim Wonnacott, saying: "Mark and Catherine are heading 62 miles North West to the small town of Kilbirnie in North Ayrshire, but things aren’t going quite to plan."

Catherine sighed, holding her head in her hands, saying: "I just don’t know. I really don’t know." Mark hit back at his fellow antiques expert, sarcastically jibing: "Well, thank you very much Catherine.”

Catherine replied: "Oh look, it’s not my fault. I don’t know what’s happened." Mark said back: "No, no, listen. You’re a saboteur. I’ve now got to struggle up to my shop." She said back: “Mark, it’s 300 yards. It’s not far. It’s hardly a struggle." Mark swiped: "Catherine, Catherine, this is just the beginning of the week. I’m going to remember this." While Mark walked off, Catherine yelled: "So you’re just going to leave me and abandon me in the middle of nowhere with this car?"

Tim narrated: "Oh crikey. With a full day of shopping ahead of him, Mark’s having to hot foot it up to the working farm which houses stirrup cup antiques. While poor Catherine’s left to sort out the engine." It's not the first time the show has experienced awkwardness, with another recent rerun giving viewers an uncomfortable watch when a guest thought his mystery item had been undervalued.

The scene took place at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, where BBC expert Gordon Foster was intrigued by an unusual item brought before him. Gordon exclaimed: "I love it on the when you get a mystery object and you've brought along a silver box! " He explained that onlookers had given various guesses at what it was for - usefrom a lady's makeup container to a bespoke carrying case for caviar.

The owner then revealed that the box was a live fly holder for angling, adding he was enormously pleased with it as it was a present from his spouse to celebrate their 17th anniversary. He disclosed that the piece was made from solid silver and crafted by the esteemed Asprey of London, but admitted not using it for its intended purpose due to concerns over fragility.

Acknowledging how rare the item is, Gordon recalled he had seen just one similar piece in his career, adding that the silver content coupled with the Art Deco design and prestigious Asprey name signified the item could be valuable.

Gordon valued the piece between £2,000 and £3,000, and the guest seemed excited, exclaiming: "Wow, wow, that's amazing!" But the atmosphere shifted slightly when the man remarked: "I think she paid £4,000...", implying a possible undervalue, leading to a bout of laughter between them though it was unclear if the comment was in jest.
