Arne Slot has already proven my one concern wrong after learning Liverpool lesson early on

Liverpool is top of the Premier League. On a scale of 1-10, how pleased have you been with Arne Slot's start?

You have to be happy with the start that has made. Considering we are top of the league, it is . The only concern I had about the Dutchman was his initial unwillingness to rest players and to play the same 11 in every game. I felt this played a large role in the loss to . Thankfully it appears that we have learned to rotate the players a bit more since then.

A lot of pundits in the media have shared an opinion that we have not played anyone of significance yet. The reality though is that we can only play those teams on the pitch in front of us. We have won six out of seven games and conceded only two goals. All of the signs are positive.

  • Typically it is at this stage of the season that we know if we are going to be up there fighting at the end. The second international break is a good time to reflect on where we have come from and where we are going. Performances and results have been good and we can look forward with positivity.

Last season we put in our performance of the season to beat by four at home. We played one of our poorest games away to Arsenal, yet we realistically only lost as a result of a miscommunication between and . If we win at home to Chelsea again and avoid defeat in London, I believe that we will have the foundation to go all the way.

Who's been the best Liverpool player this season so far?

Ryan Gravenberch has this season. His consistency in the middle of the field has surprised both fans and pundits in what is essentially a new role for him. People keep waiting for a blip from him but he has risen to every challenge. Hopefully a couple more performances against Chelsea and Arsenal will silence his doubters.

Jarell Quansah and Ibrahima Konate are in line for new contracts. How important is that for Liverpool?

The club has ultimately made a mess of the contract dealings over the big three. If the club had no intention of offering each player a new contract, they should have sold the players in the Summer and made some money back on each. However, running the risk of losing all three at the same time is irresponsible. There is still time to find a resolution for all three, but the clock is ticking.

To tie down Quansah and Konate is sensible and may be an acknowledgement of a lesson learned, that our players should not be allowed to run their contracts down. Both have demonstrated on the field that they can play for the club for many years to come, and while we continue to be lined with other center-backs, building a strong squad is essential for long-term success.

The talk of the big three contracts is not dying down. Can Liverpool afford to lose any of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold or Mohamed Salah for free?

We cannot afford to lose all three players at the same time. This would be significantly more difficult than losing Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and James Milner at the same time as all three still have so much more to provide to the club. Trent is the future. Van Dijk transformed the team from being one with potential,to one of winners.

He can play for another season at least and also mentor and guide any future central defender partnership. Salah is a legend that could continue for another few years yet. I would have Van Dijk pass the captaincy to Trent as an incentive to stay, while also encouraging Van Dijk to earn his coaching badges, with a view to joining the coaching staff in the future. The goals from Salah will continue to flow and as long as he is happy to stay, I would offer him a new deal.
