Liverpool has two injury concerns ahead of Crystal Palace fixture in Premier League

Send Push

Liverpool is definitely without long-term absentee Harvey Elliott for Saturday's trip to Selhurst Park,

Elliott has been missing for the Reds since fracturing his foot during the September international break, and is hopeful that he will be back by the end of October.

Chiesa, meanwhile, is a doubt for the game against Crystal Palace after missing the win over Bologna earlier in the week.

The nature of the Italian's injury has not been specified, but it has been enough to keep him out of training in recent days. Slot spoke on Friday morning ahead of a training session later that day, and

"[It's] wait and see [if he's ready]," Slot said. "He didn't train for the last two days. He came in today to see if he could train and if he can I still have a decision to make because we can only select 20 [players] and he hasn't trained for a few days. But first of all, we have to wait and see if he can even train - and if he can then it's our decision if we bring him to the game or not."

Chiesa has struggled with injuries in recent years, failing to rediscover his brilliant early career form after sustaining a serious knee injury in January 2022, and Slot will hope that his latest setback is just a minor one.

The Italian joined Liverpool for a fee that could rise to $16million during the summer transfer window, with the winger's value having diminished in recent years. It was reported that Liverpool had a $100million-plus bid for Chiesa rejected after Euro 2020, in which the Italian starred.

Chiesa has made just one start for his new club so far, lining up in the EFL Cup win over West Ham at Anfield, but lasted less than an hour before being withdrawn by Arne Slot, who is clearly keen to gently ease the 26-year-old into English football. Chiesa also came off the bench in games against AC Milan and Bournemouth.
