'Quietest' UK airport has short queues and empty shops – but it comes with a catch

Jetting off on holiday can often be a stressful experience, with bustling and numerous stages to navigate before you can finally relax at your destination.

However, one enthusiast has made a surprising revelation. In a candid video, Gem, known as TC Gem on the platform, declared Cardiff Airport as the "quietest airport" she's ever flown from.

The empty shops in the background of her video certainly seem to support her claim. In the footage, she takes viewers on a tour around the seemingly deserted airport, where she enjoyed free reign of the shops in what appeared to be a tranquil travel experience.

Of course, there is a catch and the airport may not always be that quiet. Experts generally agree that Tuesdays and Wednesdays tend to be less busy for air travel, with fewer passengers opting to fly mid-week.

On the other hand, weekends and holidays typically see busier and more costly flights, particularly on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. Despite this, many travellers have echoed Gem's sentiments on TikTok, stating they too found Cardiff Airport to be rather quiet.

Ryan Murkin previously confessed it had the "quietest departure lounge" he'd ever encountered. Others have also reported it being "dead" during their travels.

However, despite its apparent lack of hustle and bustle, many have admitted that it's a pleasant airport to travel from, likely due to its peaceful atmosphere.

One satisfied customer praised the airport on TrustPilot, saying: "Incredibly helpful staff here, quiet airport. We had a 9 month old with us and had exceeded baggage amount for max one bag. They kindly found a spare bag for us to split luggage, which was hugely appreciated. Security and boarding very supportive when travelling with a young child."

Another traveller shared their positive experience, writing: "First time flying from Cardiff as it's normally cheaper for us to fly from Bristol or Birmingham, but will definitely consider paying slightly extra to fly from Cardiff for future holidays! Very simple, quick and easy check in, no queues for security due to the limited amount of flights daily, plenty of space in the airport."

A third passenger also expressed their satisfaction, stating: "Love this airport - so stress-free. Flew from Cardiff to Dublin and back with a toddler and everything about the airport experience was easy, quick and convenient. No queuing and no delays. Definitely planning on using Cardiff airport whenever possible from now on."
