Sir Alex Ferguson and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer disagree on next Man Utd manager

Send Push

Sir Alex Ferguson and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have differing views when it comes to a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag.

The Manchester United boss is under mounting pressure at Old Trafford having already lost three of the season's opening six games. He survived a review in the summer but the new hierarchy may soon have to act if results do not improve.

A lack of credible and available candidates in the summer was thought to be a factor in United retaining Ten Hag - but two of their former managers appear to have made their feelings clear on which direction the club should go if they do make a change in the dugout.

Ferguson, the last man to win the Premier League for the club, is understood to favour a move for Max Allegri. The Italian has been a serial winner in his homeland and has proven himself to be an able performer in the Champions League.

Allegri is currently a man without a job having left Juventus in the summer and the Scot is thought to be an admirer. The 57-year-old would be another proven winner with a stellar CV, but those appointments haven't worked out previously for United.

Solskjaer meanwhile would be keen to see his former assistant and ex-player Michael Carrick be given a shot. Carrick took temporary charge of United when the Norwegian was dismissed before leaving Manchester and taking over at Middlesbrough, whom he has led into the play-offs previously.

Speaking of Carrick previously, Solskjaer said: "As a player, you’d want to do well for Michael because he cares about you. He wants you to be the best you can be. If I was a player I’d want him as a manager because he wouldn’t be unreasonable. He knows what he wants. He demands respect and hard work, but he gives it back as well."

He added: "I am 100 per cent sure that Michael will be the manager of Manchester United if he wants to be. I cannot see him not being the Manchester United manager."

Despite the noise surrounding Ten Hag he is adamant he can turn around United's fortunes and make this another successful season. The Dutchman has delivered trophies in the past two campaigns and maintains this will be another winning year.

He told Sky Sports : "We are going to make a success from the season . Nothing is easy, but this is nothing for me to panic about. We can sort [the problems] out, this team can sort this out."
