Maharashtra: Around 10 kg narcotic drug seized by DRI, four arrested

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 11 (ANI): Around 10 kg opium, that was being transported from Ratlam to Mumbai was seized and four accused were arrested in connection with the case, officials said on Friday.
The arrest was made by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials based on a tip-off. The DRI team intercepted the suspected truck near a toll plaza in Maharashtra.
"Based on specific intelligence that opium, a narcotic drug, was being transported from Ratlam to Mumbai in substantial quantity in a truck, officers of DRI Mumbai mounted surveillance overnight near a toll plaza in Maharashtra and intercepted the said truck in the early hours of October 9," the DRI stated.
Upon searching the suspected truck, the officials recovered 9690 grams (9.69 kg) of a substance purported to be opium. A test with an NDPS field test kit confirmed the presence of opium in the recovered substance.


Following this, the receiver and supplier were apprehended in Mumbai and Ratlam respectively. Subsequently, the cultivator who diverted opium illegally was also apprehended at Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh.
A total of 9690 gm of Opium was seized and 4 persons were arrested, under the provisions of NDPS Act,1985, acording to DRI.

"The operation reinforces the capabilities of the DRI to bust drug trafficking networks, DRI said in a press release," it added. (ANI)
