Air India Flight from Mumbai to New York Diverted to Delhi Due to Bomb Threat

An Air India flight traveling from Mumbai to New York was diverted to Delhi on Monday after a bomb threat was reported. The aircraft, originally bound for John F. Kennedy International Airport, was rerouted to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi as a security precaution.

Flight AI119, which was operating on October 14, was diverted following instructions from the government’s security regulatory committee. Upon its arrival in Delhi, all passengers were safely evacuated and moved to the airport terminal, according to an airline spokesperson.

Delhi police confirmed that the aircraft is currently stationed at IGI Airport, where all necessary security protocols are being followed to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew.

So far, it remains unclear whether the bomb threat on the Air India flight was genuine or a hoax. If it is determined to be a false alarm, the plane will be cleared for its journey to New York once the security inspection is complete. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Indian carriers have faced such incidents. Over the past few months, multiple flights have received fake bomb threats, causing disruptions and delays.

One notable incident occurred on September 6, when a Vistara flight from Mumbai to Frankfurt was diverted to Erzurum Airport in eastern Turkey. A note claiming there was a bomb on board was discovered in one of the plane’s lavatories. Although the threat was later confirmed to be a hoax, it led to significant inconvenience for the passengers, who were stranded at the Turkish airport for almost 24 hours before they could resume their journey.

Such hoaxes, while false, create chaos and can cause undue stress for both passengers and airline staff, highlighting the need for stringent security protocols in aviation.
