Dolly Parton Commits $1 Million to Rebuild Lives After Hurricane Helene

Send Push

Dolly Parton has once again stepped up to support those in need, donating $1 million to aid victims of Hurricane Helene. The country music icon made the generous pledge after her home state of Tennessee, along with five other states, was severely impacted by the hurricane.

Parton visited a Walmart in Newport, Tennessee, to announce that she and her East Tennessee businesses are partnering with the retailer to assist in relief efforts. Walmart had already increased its commitment from $6 million to $10 million, and now Parton’s donation will be directed to the Mountain Ways Foundation, an organization dedicated to ongoing disaster relief and ensuring essential resources reach the most affected areas efficiently.

Parton’s $1 million donation will be matched by her East Tennessee businesses, which include Dollywood Parks & Resorts, Dolly Parton’s Stampede, Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show, and the Dollywood Foundation.

"I really, really wish we were all gathered for a happier occasion, but we’ve all seen the devastation," said Parton during a press conference. She reflected on how deeply the disaster affected the place she calls home, adding, "These are my mountains, my valleys, my rivers, and my people."

In addition to Tennessee, Hurricane Helene caused widespread destruction in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Virginia. The death toll has risen to over 200, making it the deadliest hurricane in the US since 2017 and the most devastating for Florida’s Big Bend region in recorded history.
