Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized on Tuesday that resolving seemingly small challenges faced by farmers could potentially raise their income by up to 20%. During a meeting with members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Independent), part of his 'direct dialogue' (seedha samvad) initiative that began on September 24, Chouhan discussed several key issues impacting the agricultural sector.
Chouhan highlighted the importance of addressing these concerns, stating, "These problems may seem small, but solving them can increase farmers' income by 10 to 20 per cent."
During the meeting, representatives from the union expressed concerns about polluted factory water and the need for quick replacement of damaged transformers. Other topics of discussion included lowering crop production costs, ensuring fair market prices, and tackling waterlogging issues. The meeting also touched on the overuse of pesticides, its effects on health, and improving access to government schemes like the PM Fasal Bima Yojana.
Farmers were also provided with quality seeds and pesticides, and Chouhan assured them that specific issues faced by different states would be forwarded to the respective state governments for resolution.
Chouhan has committed to meeting with farmers and agricultural organizations every Tuesday to address their concerns and find solutions.
This initiative aims to create a direct communication channel between the ministry and farming communities to speed up problem-solving and boost agricultural productivity.
