“… This region is considered a safe place for all Naxals. This operation was planned four days ago on receiving information about senior Naxals… 31 Naxals have been killed and heavy arms and ammunition have been recovered,” DIG Dantewada Range, Kamalochan Kashyap, told the ANI.
The contact with the Maoists happened at 12.30 pm on Saturday. The encounter is still going on.
Several assault rifles, including AK series and other weapons, were recovered, reports claimed.
Following intelligence reports of a large Maoist presence, separate teams of security forces were sent to villages in Govel, Nendur and Thulthuli under Orcha and Barsur police stations. They launched combing operations.
The encounter broke out in the forests near Nendur-Thulthuli. Reports claimed Maoists had retreated deeper into the forest.
