A smart device that serves as a speaker and tablet all in one, may be what you're after. If you've never heard of it before the Amazon device offers the best of the go-to Echo Dot speaker and touchscreen tablet all in one.

Easy to set up with smart hub devices this tablet-like speaker, which comes with Amazon's well-known Alexa virtual assistant packed into it to, is a handy gadget to pop in your office, living room bedroom, or my favourite...the kitchen. As the name suggests it has an eight-inch display that can be used for catching live notifications or switching and watching Prime Video (yes, like a tablet).

The newest Echo Show 8 3rd Generation is currently cut in price in Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days sale, where a number of its own tech products are being reduced front and centre. instead of the usual £149.99 tech shoppers will make a £55 saving if they beat the 11:59pm October 9 Prime Day deadline.

As the name suggests, it has an eight-inch touchscreen and if you opted for the smaller Echo Show 5 or bigger Echo Show 15 you'd be bagging the same speaker and Alexa speaker but with a different-sized tablet screen. You can use the to watch your favourite films, series or documentaries and even make video calls from its integrated camera.

Now with spatial audio, the upgrade comes with more attention to its listening quality, essentially this feature will make it sound as though the sound from your music, film or series is surrounding you...not too shabby. In fact, it's something that's made me contemplate upgrading my current Echo Show 8 (1st Gen) for the snazzier 3rd Gen model.

It's one of , propped up in the kitchen I use it to play music when cooking, find recipes, take calls, and ask Alexa to watch the next episode of Grey's Anatomy or Emily in Paris if my hands are messy. But, as the original model, it's fitted with the lesser Dolby stereo sound.

Alexa can find a recipe in just a few seconds which has certainly saved me from getting my phone out to look on Google or even dust off the very few cookbooks I have on the shelf. The fact you don't have to touch anything with messy hands just makes life so much easier too.

Cooking aside, I've found this to be the best place to home the device, you can answer calls whilst cooking, listen to a podcast or even watch a film. It may be lazy but I love it. Not as fancy as the current Echo Show 8 3rd Gen on sale, on top of the £55 saving it's one reason I'd recommend it.

My one gripe with it and worth considering if you're looking at you can only call contacts who have the Alexa App downloaded on their device, which for those who don't it's fiddly when you could pick up a phone instead. Don't get me wrong it's a great feature and having tested out the camera and the normal call setting I can tell that the quality would overtake the likes of Zoom, teams and Skype (remember them?) and is just as good as using Apple's FaceTime.

As well as Amazon and it's Echo Show devices, has cut the price of the, a budget choice if you're looking for an inexpensive model.
