Rumours are gathering pace that are considering replacing with , and it's a development that is sure to excite one star in particular. Ten Hag is back under mounting pressure after a run of five games without a win, with United 14th in the table after their worst ever start to a season.

The 54-year-old kept his job this summer following a full season review by and INEOS, but later admitted he was aware the club had held talks with other managers.

According to reports, the Dutchman's position will be seriously discussed at a scheduled meeting today), with Ratcliffe, , chief executive Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox all set to attend.

If the axe does fall on Ten Hag, . But while remains the favourite to become the long-term successor, the club's clear interest in Tuchel could bring renewed hope for having previously worked under the German for 18 months at .

During that turbulent period from January 2021 to September 2022, and FIFA World Club Cup titles and lose a European Super Cup, and two finals, Mount played a crucial role, providing the assist for that now famous Kai Havertz goal in Porto. And while at Chelsea, Mount opened up on the immediate impact the 51-year-old had after succeeding .

"We had a meeting where he put down everything that he wants us to do, how he wants us to play, how he likes to manage," he said. "He told us everything and then we went out and trained and we had a game the next day. So it was a crazy kind of turnaround but he was so clear on what he wanted and how he would like us to play, very clear on the roles and responsibilities, that it made it very easy for us to transition."

Mount, who has struggled to replicate his form at Old Trafford since his £55million move to United last summer, initially struggled to get regular starts under Tuchel. But he also credited the former and boss for then switching him into a more advanced role as he became firmly established.

"My first year or two I played in a bit of a deeper role as an eight," said Mount." Now I am playing higher up as a 10-slash-winger so that gives me more opportunities to make it into the box. They want me in the box and being a threat going forward so that is a big focus of mine."

"This season (Tuchel's second in charge) I've probably played a little bit higher than I was used to - playing as a kind of forward 10, or sometimes a winger or a false nine. So I've had to adapt a bit but that gives me more opportunity to get into the box and have the opportunities to score and create.

"So far this season that's been a big focus of mine, to improve that and to put pressure on myself to be someone who wants to go forward and step up and score goals and create assists. That's definitely something that's improved over the time he's been here."

Critically, Mount was also full of praise for the apparent clarity provided by Tuchel, with his current manager frequently accused of overseeing a United team that lacks direction. "He makes it very clear what you as an individual needs to do," he added.

"That's definitely something that's impressed me a lot, with the backroom staff as well. They've all been brilliant since they came in and it's really been working well."
