Christine Lampard has opened up about her son Freddie's avid enthusiasm for football kits, revealing his unexpected preference for the Northern Ireland jersey over an shirt, despite his dad prominent football legacy.

icon Lampard became a Stamford Bridge hero during his remarkable 13-year stint post his £11m move from , while also shining for England, netting 29 goals in 106 appearances.

Yet, young Freddie seems to have his own ideas about team allegiance, much to his mum's delight.

The former One Show presenter disclosed to that little Freddie wants to don a different football kit daily, with a noticeable partiality for the emerald shades representing Christine's homeland of Northern Ireland, eschewing the England kit recently gifted by his aunt.

As Christine amusingly shared: "My little boy's obsessed with kits and at the moment he wants to wear them every day. At the minute he loves the Northern Irish kit which is obviously all green."

She added gleefully about his snub to the England outfit, "He's got the new England kit actually, his aunt bought it for him recently, but he doesn't want to wear it. He comes downstairs and Frank's like 'do you know what you did?' And I get a little kick out of that!"

This hint of domestic rivalry may gain another layer of complexity, as Frank Lampard recently expressed aspirations of eventually taking charge of the England national squad, especially following exit after England's narrow final defeat to Spain this July.

The esteemed former England midfielder expressed his openness to coaching the national team on podcast: "As an English player who played 100-plus times, and an English person who's very proud of course, the England set up is something... I never dreamed of playing as many times for England, let alone now as a coach.

"So, now as a coach, you know, I think I would be crazy to sort of say, 'Oh no, that would never interest me.' It would have to be something that they would want me to do, and have to be something that I want to do and thought I could add value to it in any way."

Meanwhile, Christine Lampard, hailing from near Belfast, shared insights about her son Freddie during a chat about her role in the new all-women football podcast, , which she co-hosts with friends Kelly Cates and Hayley McQueen.
