World Grand Prix darts semi-finalist Dimitri Van den Bergh has revealed that he was asked to appear on The Masked Singer in Belgium. The thrower suffered heartache in the last-four of the World Grand Prix as he was dispatched 5-2 by compatriot Mike De Decker.

UK Open champion Van den Bergh controlled the early stages of the encounter as he cruised through the opening set but then lost three consecutive sets.

Van den Bergh replied with his second set of the night but then lost another two on the bounce as De Decker booked his place in his first ever televised final.

The two players have been sharing an Airbnb during the tournament in Leicester, with the defeated semi-finalist asked with Boyle Sport whether he would consider appearing on Big Brother as he has apparently been a good housemate.

And Van den Bergh, by World Grand Prix darts finalist Luke Humphries earlier this year, explained: "Big brother, that's a step too far. You've got basically no privacy anymore, they've got 24 hours livestreams so everyone is literally being watched. That's a bit extraordinary, taking it over the top.

"Funnily enough, in Belgium I've been asked already to do a few shows, including The Masked Singer. I don't know if I would be really good at it but I definitely would have a lot of fun. All of these people, the way they're dressed, their costumes, a bit of singing - I don't even know if I'm good at, but it would be fun."

And he added: "Last year - there is something called a mushroom in English - it's different in Belgium, it's champignon, that's what they call it. It almost sounds like champion. And they were making this image as if it was me.

"So many people were asking if I was in it, if I was doing it and I just tagged along. I really was making people believe I was in the suit.

"The biggest reason I'm not in these shows is because I'm a professional darts player and the Tour is just very busy when they do all the episodes at this time when we've got all the Majors. So it never plans out right."

De Decker is preparing to go head-to-head with Humphries in the final at the Mattioli Arena after overcoming Van den Bergh. And following his last-four showdown, the Belgian said: "I'm over the moon - really, really happy.

"In the beginning of the game I was really nervous. There's been so much attention on this game and when I took the second set I relaxed, knowing that I can still play.

"Dimitri had a couple of sets where he wasn't starting off and I took advantage."
