Chhattisgarh village is on edge after the family of a police personnel was killed by a history-sheeter in Surajpur district . The wife and daughter of a policeman were killed by a criminal after his failed bid to crush the cop under a vehicle.

The bodies of head constable Talib Sheikh's wife, Mehnaaz (35), and daughter, Aliya (11), were discovered on the outskirts of Pidha village, located 4 km from their residence within the City Kotwali police station limits, according to news agency PTI.

The series of tragedy started when the accused, Kuldeep Sahu threw hot oil on one of the constables deployed at a Durga idol immersion procession on Sunday night. The official stated that the accused attempted to run over Sheikh and other police personnel with a four-wheeler when they arrived at the scene to arrest him for the oil attack, but he managed to escape.

"When Sheikh returned home after duty, he found the door broken and his wife and daughter missing. He alerted the police when he saw blood stains inside the house, and a search was launched for his family," the official told PTI.

The bodies were discovered in the morning. Accoring to reports, it appeared that the accused attacked the mother-daughter duo with a sharp weapon, resulting in their deaths. A search operation has been initiated to apprehend Sahu, with the police conducting vehicle checks since Sunday night.

Meanwhile, as the news of the double murder got out, angry locals vandalised and set fire to Sahu's house. A video also showed the mob attacking the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) who was present at the scene to control the crowd.

A large number of police personnel have been deployed in the city.
