The Palestinian militant group on early Saturday reported that an Israeli airstrike killed one of its commanders, Saeed Atallah Ali, along with his wife and two daughters in the Beddawi refugee camp near Lebanon 's Tripoli.

This marks the first strike in northern Lebanon since the start of the Gaza war .

Israel has frequently targeted Hamas officials in Lebanon since the Gaza conflict began nearly a year ago, with the group confirming the deaths of at least 18 militants there.

Hamas on Monday announced that an airstrike killed its leader in Lebanon, Fatah Sharif Abu al-Amine , at his home in the Al-Bass camp in southern Lebanon.

In August, a strike on a vehicle in Sidon killed Hamas commander Samer al-Hajj, while a January strike in Hezbollah’s stronghold in southern Beirut killed Hamas deputy leader Saleh al-Aruri and six other militants.

Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, originally established for those displaced during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, remain under the control of Palestinian factions, with the Lebanese army staying out by longstanding agreement.

Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire almost daily across the Lebanon border since October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a cross-border attack that resulted in the deaths of 1,200 Israelis and the taking of 250 hostages.

In response, Israel declared war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip. As the Israel-Hamas conflict reaches its one-year anniversary, over 41,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, with more than half of the casualties being women and children, according to local health officials.
