Watch: KJP storms off after heated debate over Hurricane relief fund

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre clashed with a Fox News reporter in a tense exchange over the federal response to Hurricane Helene . The heated discussion occurred during a press briefing on Monday, focusing on the funding available for disaster relief in the affected areas.

Jean-Pierre said that the administration had provided more than $200 million to those impacted by the hurricane. However, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy challenged the White House’s handling of disaster funds, particularly comparing it to other allocations, such as aid to Lebanon.

“You don't have enough money for people in North Carolina, but there’s funding for Lebanon. What does that say about the administration’s values?” Doocy asked.

Jean-Pierre quickly dismissed the question, accusing Doocy of spreading misinformation. “Your whole premise is misinformation,” she responded firmly. “We have money allocated to help survivors of Hurricane Helene, and there’s additional funding coming. Congress needs to come back and do their job.”

The debate escalated as Doocy pressed further on whether the government had enough resources for disaster relief. Jean-Pierre reiterated that funds were available, but she acknowledged the need for Congress to approve further allocations, especially with another storm, Hurricane Milton, heading towards Florida.

“We’re going to need additional funding,” Jean-Pierre admitted. “Congress needs to come back and provide more assistance. That’s the reality.”

Before abruptly ending the briefing, she added, “This President and Vice President are focused on getting help to those who need it.”

Kamala blasts Trump over Hurricane misinformation

Vice President Kamala Harris also weighed in on the controversy surrounding disaster relief, taking aim at former President Donald Trump for his claims that the federal government is withholding aid from Republican areas.

“Trump is spreading misinformation, and it’s incredibly irresponsible,” Harris said before boarding Air Force Two. “He’s saying that aid is being withheld, which is simply not true. People are entitled to the resources FEMA has made available.”

Harris criticised Trump for prioritising his own political agenda over the needs of survivors, particularly in the wake of Helene, which has claimed more than 220 lives. “It’s not about him; it’s about the people who desperately need help,” she said.
