Samsung has announced that it has started mass production of its fastest SSD for PCs, the PM9E1, which is based on PCIe 5.0 technology. This new SSD offers industry-leading performance and large storage capacity, according to Samsung. It is built with a 5 nm-based controller and 8th-gen V-NAND technology, designed to deliver exceptional performance and improved power efficiency, making it ideal for on-device AI PCs.

The PM9E1 boasts 14.5 GB/s reading speed and 13 GB/s writing speed, which supports a range of data-intensive AI applications. The SSD will be available in several storage options, including 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB.

In terms of security, the PM9E1 incorporates several protocols, including Secure Channel, Device Authentication, and Firmware Tampering Attestation, to safeguard against supply chain attacks during production and distribution.

Samsung will initially offer this PCIe 5.0-based SSD to global PC manufacturers, with plans to make it available to consumers later. Before its consumer release, the SSD might receive a more consumer-friendly name, such as 1090 PRO or something similar.

This SSD represents a major advancement in storage technology, particularly for devices requiring fast, reliable performance for demanding applications.
