Apple Planning New Retail Stores in India, Begins iPhone 16 Series Manufacturing: Report

The series was launched in September this year. It features the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The company was last reported to manufacture iPhone 16 Pro variants in India, but according to a new report, all four iPhone 16 models will be manufactured in the country. According to the report, the Cupertino-based tech giant is also going to increase retail stores in the Indian markets. To be informed, the company had opened its first two stores in India in Mumbai and Delhi in April 2023.

New Apple Stores in India

Apple plans four new retail stores in India, according to a report by MoneyControl. That might include another store in Mumbai and new Apple Stores in Bengaluru, Pune, and the Delhi-NCR region. According to a report, the senior Vice President of Retail at Apple, Deirdre O’Brien, said that the company was looking forward to increasing retail footprints in India.

According to the report, retail expansion plans are expected to be headed by the success story of the existing stores of Mumbai and Delhi. The two retail stores together accounted for more than one-fifth of its sales in the country, analysts have said, quoted in the report.

iPhone 16 Manufacturing in India

The above report further adds that the production of iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max has started rolling off in India. Some of these locally produced handsets will eventually be sold in the country and exported also.

According to this report, the total iPhone 16 series is being produced in India. While Foxconn is said to produce the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus and Pro Max, Pegatron is said to assemble the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, and the iPhone 16 Pro. Tata Electronics is reportedly producing iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus phones.

Apple is currently producing iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone 13 handsets in India. According to the Economic Survey 2023-2024, $14 billion or 1,400 crore worth of iPhone, which makes up 14% of global iPhone production, was assembled in India.

Media reports further indicate that the government is appealing to Apple to make all its products in the country and the states. This will also help more people be employed locally. Recently, the electronics giant has been trying to diversify its manufacturing business out of China.
