Square Enix Wants to Release Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox After PC Port

In fact, Final Fantasy XVI was released exclusively for the PS5 in 2023 and just made landfall on PC last month. It’s still nowhere to be seen on Xbox, however, without known release dates on Microsoft’s console. This update comes from publisher Square Enix on Final Fantasy 16’s potential release on Xbox Series S/X.

Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox

According to producer and gaming legend Naoki Yoshida, more popularly known by the handle Yoshi-P, Square Enix is interested in releasing an Xbox port for FFXVI, but the company cannot yet confirm a timeline for the same.

“Of course we did announce the PC version of the game, so looking towards the Xbox version, we do want to release it on Xbox,” Yoshida said in a Video Games interview published last week. “But when it comes to the specifics such as when the game would be available and such, we are not in a position to be able to share anything,” he added.

But the producer reassures Xbox players not to lose all hope, saying that Square Enix very much wants the game to be brought over to Xbox. “Of course, I would like to say that it’s not as if there’s zero hope, and we very much do want to achieve that. So players should not give up in terms of their hopes.”.

Neither Square Enix nor Microsoft has officially confirmed that a version of Final Fantasy 16 is in the works for Xbox.

Final Fantasy 16 made its worldwide debut on the PS5 on June 22, 2023. The game has finally made its way to PC, launching on both Steam and the Epic Games Store yesterday, September 17. The Complete Edition, which bundles in both of the Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide expansions with the entire game, has also landed on the PS5.

The publisher has launched its latest Final Fantasy titles on the PS5 exclusively, a move that now seems to have blown up in its face. As sales of some recent big-budget games are disappointing, the publisher said in an earnings report earlier this year. Revenue and profit for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Final Fantasy XVI and Foamstars – all PlayStation exclusives – “were lower than forecasted,” said company CEO Takashi Kiryu.

Following this, Square Enix has since been significantly restructured and is moving away from its trend of releasing most of its major titles first on PlayStation. So, following Kiryu, big releases are multi-platform launches across PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC going forward.
